Samsung’s Albert Suarez was substituted on Saturday against LG in Daegu with a left calf injury. It’s more than a loss.
Suarez was 4-7 with a 3.94 ERA in 18 starts prior to this game. He pitched well in the month of July, going 2-0 with a 0.00 ERA in three games.
In his last start, on July 1 against the KIA in Pohang, he was roughed up for five runs in 5⅓ innings. The mound in Pohang had less to do with his pitching than a drop in velocity or control issues.
Suarez gave up a single to Hong Chang-ki in the first inning, but induced Moon Sung-ju into a shortstop-second baseman-first baseman double play. Two batters later, he gave up a single to right to Kim Hyun-soo.
Suarez felt discomfort in his left calf while covering first base, and a trainer and pitching coach Kwon Oh-joon went to the mound to check his condition. Unable to pitch normally, Suarez was helped off the mound by the trainer. Right-hander Lee Seung-hyun was brought in as an emergency.
Lee gave up a single to Austin, but induced Oh to ground out to second base to end the inning.
A club official said, “Suarez was replaced due to left calf pain. He will be taken to the SM Radiology Department for further examination.”
Samsung swept LG for the second day in a row, eliminating the ninth-place Kiwoom. Coach Park Jin-man said before the game, “We are not in a situation to give up yet. We’re on the upswing, and like KT, we can go up at any time. We’ll have to wait until the end of the season to find out,” he said, keeping his hopes alive for a top-five finish.먹튀검증
Especially with David Buchanan, Albert Suarez, Won Tae-in, and Baek Jeong-hyun back in the lineup, the team has more flexibility in its starting lineup. However, the unexpected injury blow will be felt even more.
Samsung was outscored 4-7 by LG. Suarez’s injury will be felt more than the end of the winning streak. Here’s hoping it’s nothing serious.
