English Premier League (EPL) club Tottenham is without legend Harry Kane.
Kane has left Tottenham for Bayern Munich. As the team’s top scorer and one of the best strikers in the EPL, the loss of Kane is bound to shake Spurs. The move was so sudden that the club hasn’t even signed a striker to replace him.
Many English media outlets and pundits have predicted that the striker’s departure will be followed by the arrival of Giroud. He joined Tottenham for £60 million ($101.8 million) from Everton last season, but failed to live up to expectations. Not only did he fail to win a starting spot, but even when he did, he failed to impress. He scored just one goal in the EPL last season.
However, in Kane’s absence, it’s inevitable that the Frenchman will step up to the plate. In fact, Tottenham tried him up front in the first leg against Brentford on March 13. It was a failure. Without making any impressive moves, the Frenchman was silent. The game ended in a 2-2 draw.
With no indication of when a new striker will be brought in, Tottenham have no choice but to play him up front for the time being. There’s no other option. It’s a crisis that could lead to Spurs’ early season collapse.
However, someone has emerged to offer Spurs a new way to deal with Kane’s absence: Harry Redknapp, a veteran who has seen it all.
Redknapp, 76, has managed West Ham, Southampton, Queens Park Rangers, Bournemouth, and most notably, Tottenham.
The veteran manager, who still has a soft spot for Spurs, has given Spurs direct advice on how to replace Kane.
Speaking to ‘Stadium Astro’, he said: “He can’t replace Kane. He can’t even fill the void of Kane’s influence. If you look at his performances last season, he’s not at the same level as Kane. He scored goals for the Brazilian national team and for Everton, but not for Tottenham.
There is another alternative. It’s Son Heung-min. Redknapp has called for Son up front. He has experience playing as a frontline striker on occasion. 안전놀이터
He said: “Spurs should play Son as a striker, not Heung-min. I’m sure Son will score 20 goals this season if he plays in Kane’s place.”
“Of course, he won’t be as destructive as he was when he was playing alongside Kane. That’s the problem,” he added.
