The Doosan Bears Baseball Tournament was held for the first time in four years due to the novel coronavirus (COVID-19). The tournament was divided into elementary (U13) and little divisions.
The primary division, the ’37th Seoul U13 Baseball Tournament’, was held from July 10 to July 17 at Guui Stadium with 21 teams participating. The Little Division, the 36th Little Baseball Championship, was held from July 25 to July 29 at Jangchung Little Baseball Field and Hwaseong Dream Park with 25 teams, including two teams from the Future Team (District 2), competing.
The primary division was won by Yonghwa Elementary School and the runner-up was Dogok Elementary School. The Little Division was won by the Yeongdeungpo-gu Little Baseball Team and the runner-up was the Nowon-gu Little Baseball Team.
Along with the awards ceremony, the tournament also featured dune bashing and a sitar ceremony. Lee Ha-joon (catcher), the tournament’s Most Valuable Player (MVP) in the elementary division, and Kim Hyun-jae (pitcher and shortstop), the MVP of the Little Division, were in charge of the ceremony. “I’m really happy to be able to throw out the ceremonial first pitch at my favorite team, Doosan,” said Lee, “and I dream of becoming a catcher representing Korea like Yang Ji.”
“Thank you for creating unforgettable memories for me,” said Kim, “I want to grow up to be a great pitcher like Kwak Bin.”
Doosan has been committed to the development of grassroots baseball since 1986, when it held its first children’s baseball tournament.
