It was a battle with the bottom of the order. He got off to a good start, striking out the first batter he faced on a 1-2 count with a full fastball to the side of the body.

The next batter, Jonathan Onelas, was no match for Ryu. He tried a changeup to no avail.

Two pitches later, he hit a high fly ball. It was an easy catch for left fielder Dalton Bashaw, but shortstop Beau Bisset made the catch. The two players collided but were not injured.

In the third at-bat with Marcus Simien, Simien swung at a 1-1 count and hit a three-pitch fastball that was also high and away.

Right fielder George Springer had no trouble making the catch.

After allowing two runs in the fourth inning, Ryu settled down in the fifth, needing just nine pitches. His total pitch count was 62.
