“It’s rougher in Scotland than in China”.
The South Korea men’s national soccer team arrived in Shenzhen, China, on Sept. 19. The team warmed up lightly on their first day in China before facing China in the second Group C match of the FIFA Confederations Cup North America 2026 Asian Zone Second Qualifying Round on June 21 at the Shenzhen Universiade Center in Shenzhen, China.
“A year ago, I wasn’t even a national team player,” said Oh Hyun-kyu (Celtic), who is battling for a spot in the national team’s front line. I was a young player playing in the K League, and now I’m in Europe, playing in the UEFA Champions League and having a lot of experience. I think I’ve grown a lot as a footballer and as a person. I feel like I can do better on and off the pitch.”
“I think the Scottish league is tougher. I’m always prepared for the rough stuff. Even if my opponent overdoes it, I’m prepared to overdo it, so I’ll be able to handle it flexibly and well.”
Here are some of Oh’s one-on-one answers
- How thirsty are you for goals?
“Whenever I get a chance from the coach, I always think about scoring a goal. I always imagine (scoring a goal) the night before. I dream about it, but it’s not easy (to score). I hope I can score my debut goal as soon as possible.
- You seemed to be in good form with the team. How are you feeling now?
Good. I’m getting a lot of chances with the team. My playing time has increased a lot. I’m feeling good and confident. I didn’t score against Singapore, but if I am able to play against China, I will do my best to score.
- Do you think you’ll be able to score goals with more time on the pitch? Don’t you think your playing time with the national team is short?
If it’s short, it’s short and if it’s long, it’s long, but as a striker, whether you’re starting or coming off the bench, you have to score goals. I think the lack of time is an excuse.
-China is known for its roughness. I’m ready for it. 무지개토토 도메인
I think the Scottish league is tougher. I’m always prepared for the rough stuff. If my opponent overdoes it, I’ll be able to handle it well because I’m overprepared.
-I think I’ll be in the lineup for this match. Are you feeling it?
It’s natural that you always have to be more than 100% ready. It doesn’t matter if you’re starting or coming off the bench, you have to prepare with the same mindset so you can play well when you go in. I always prepare with the mindset of giving 150%.
